Little Luxuries
May 1st marked Little Luxuries 11th Birthday! Thank you to everyone who has made this dream of mine a reality over the past 11 years - I would not be here without your support.
On May 1st, we had some of the worst weather that I have ever seen here in May! We had a little snow, wind and just cold, cold weather. Other than the winter weather that we are experiencing, life on the island is going well! Every day in the shop we are busy unwrapping new merchandise that I can’t wait for you to see! We have so many more products arriving this month, so stay tuned for updates!
Island Girl
Our most popular item so far has been our new Island Girl Sweatshirt Dresses. They have been so popular that we already had to re-order. Many of you asked if we had a variety of colors, so we ordered a second color: heather grey!  Have you snagged yours yet? If not, do so today! (Heather grey won't be in for a few more weeks.)
I’m hopeful that spring is just around the corner. Until you’re on the island, stay updated with what’s happening on Facebook and Instagram.  Don't foget about our brother shop, Canvas and Paddle. They are celebrating their birthday on May 5th with a 20% off sale - so go check that out (Sale Valid: May 3rd - May 5th, 2019). Artists Market of Mackinac Island, our sister shop, has welcomed in so many new artists for this season. Don't forget to pop in there next time you are on the island!
As always, thanks for your support of Little Luxuries of Mackinac Island.

Little Luxuries will be opening on Friday, April 26th for its 11th year!
So many new and exciting products are arriving daily at the shop! Did you know, in order to get all of the items to our front door, boxes have to either arrive by airplane or ferry boat? After the mail arrives on the island, it is placed on a drey, which is basically a horse drawn wagon. The wagon then brings all of the boxes with our beautiful goodies to our front door! All of the mail from the USPS is delivered to the Post Office on Mackinac Island. Little Luxuries staff goes to the post office daily! If a large shipment comes in, a garden cart is used to pick up the boxes and brought back to the shop.
The team has been working for a couple of weeks now to get everything perfectly in place for our opening day. Our new products will be available in the shop on our opening day, April 26th and then will be listed on our website shortly after. If you happen to see a product on our social media that you are interested in purchasing and cannot find it listed online, please call 906.847.9980 between 9 AM - 5 PM.
We can’t wait to see you!
If you’re planning on coming to our Opening Day Celebration, RSVP here!

Lakeshore Dry Goods
This week’s Monday Maker is focused on Lakeshore Dry Goods, based in Petoskey, Michigan!
Lakeshore Dry Good creates organic cotton t-shirt hair towels that will completely change the way you feel about the days you have to wash your hair. Power couple, Pam & Christian Colby created this company to bring a new experience and a healthier way to dry your hair. Their Sunrise Bliss line is made with organic cotton to help reduce breakage, frizz, tangles and the amount of time it takes to dry your hair.
Once you own one of these towels for yourself, you will want to give them to everyone you know! The Sunrise Bliss towel makes a great Mother’s Day present, birthday gift, bridesmaid gift, teacher gift or best friend gift or just because surprise.
Lakeshore Dry Goods
I personally love using this towel and anyone I talk to shares the same feelings! The really work great and I’m so glad that we can carry this line of organic hair towels in the shop!
Currently, their towels are available in 15+ retailers around the USA and growing! The Artists Market is a proud retailer of this product and the only retailer on Mackinac Island to sell this product. If you want to make a change in your hair care process, adding this towel to your drying process will do wonders for your hair care. Next time you pop into The Artists Market, check out our selection of Lakeshore Dry Goods’ Sunrise Bliss Towels - you won’t be disappointed!

There’s no better feeling than knowing at the end of a long, busy day (when you’re going 100 different directions in a limited number of hours) coming home and knowing that you have one of your favorites on the menu for dinner! This family favorite is easy and perfect for the mid-week stressful days.
I make Italian Herb Bruschetta Chicken often in our home. Almost all the boys love it (minus one slightly picky eater!) and best of all, it’s quick and easy! Seriously, it takes only 25 minutes total. Additionally, it’s a healthy option that the entire family will enjoy. I found this recipe from Café Delites, via Pinterest. Without further ado, Italian Herb Bruschetta Chicken:

Ingredients:

Chicken:

  • (2) large boneless, skinless chicken breasts halved to make 4 fillets
  • (3) teaspoons of Italian seasoning or Italian herbs
  • (2) teaspoons minced garlic
  • Salt to taste
  • (1) tablespoon olive oil, for cooking

Topping:

  • (4) Roma tomatoes, finely chopped
  • (1/4) cup red onion finely chopped
  • (4) tablespoons of fresh basil, shredded
  • (2) tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • (1/2) cup of freshly shaved parmesan cheese

Balsamic Glaze:

  • (1/2) cup balsamic vinegar
  • (2) teaspoons brown sugar

Instructions:

  1. Season chicken with Italian seasoning, garlic and salt. Heat oil in a grill pan or skillet, and sear chicken breasts over medium-high heat until browned on both sides and cooked through (about 6 minutes each side). Remove from pan; set aside and allow to rest.
  2. Combine the tomatoes, red onion, basil, olive oil in a bowl. Season with salt. Top each chicken breast with the tomato mixture and parmesan cheese.
  3. Serve immediately with balsamic glaze (optional).

Balsamic Glaze:

  1. (If making from scratch, prepare while chicken is cooking.) Combine sugar (if using) and vinegar in a small saucepan over high heat and bring to the boil. Reduce heat to low; allow to simmer for 5-8 minutes or until mixture has thickened and reduced to a glaze. (If not using sugar, allow to reduce for 12-15 minutes on low heat).
