Doud BoysDoud BoysDoud Boys
September has been off to a busy week for us here in the Doud household! Louis has started kindergarten, with Tommy in Pre-K! With these big changes of the boys in school, we are commuting over to Mackinac Island, while having Petoskey as our home base. This is the first year that we have ever done this, so we are learning a change of pace this fall until the shops close down at the end of October.
The temperatures have dropped drastically since Labor Day, with the highs in the 60s during the day and it getting down to the low 50s / high 40s at night! At this rate, it is going to be a very cold fall.
Summer was wonderful on the island, as usual! The boys had a bucket list that we checked things off of, which included visiting Fort Mackinac, horse back riding lessons, the Watercolor Cafe and a few other Mackinac Island favorites.
Heading into fall, I’m excited for cozy weather, hot chai tea lattes, the colors changing and the slower pace of life on Mackinac Island. As always, thank you for your support of Little Luxuries, The Artists Market and Canvas and Paddle.

Banana Muffin
Happy Saturday! With the weather becoming cooler on Mackinac Island, I was able to turn on the oven and make the boys a special breakfast treat of Banana Muffins with chocolate chips that they all just loved!
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 bananas
1/4 cup honey
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 egg
1/2 cup nonfat plain greek yogurt
1 tablespoon unsweetened almond milk
1/2 cup chocolate chips
Mash bananas and mix with honey, olive oil, egg, yogurt, milk. Mix all dry ingredients together and add to banana mixture.
Place batter in greased muffin tin. Cook at 350 for 20 minutes!
Going into the new school year, I know that the boys will love having these as a special treat! I hope you enjoy!

Little Luxuries
May 1st marked Little Luxuries 11th Birthday! Thank you to everyone who has made this dream of mine a reality over the past 11 years - I would not be here without your support.
On May 1st, we had some of the worst weather that I have ever seen here in May! We had a little snow, wind and just cold, cold weather. Other than the winter weather that we are experiencing, life on the island is going well! Every day in the shop we are busy unwrapping new merchandise that I can’t wait for you to see! We have so many more products arriving this month, so stay tuned for updates!
Island Girl
Our most popular item so far has been our new Island Girl Sweatshirt Dresses. They have been so popular that we already had to re-order. Many of you asked if we had a variety of colors, so we ordered a second color: heather grey!  Have you snagged yours yet? If not, do so today! (Heather grey won't be in for a few more weeks.)
I’m hopeful that spring is just around the corner. Until you’re on the island, stay updated with what’s happening on Facebook and Instagram.  Don't foget about our brother shop, Canvas and Paddle. They are celebrating their birthday on May 5th with a 20% off sale - so go check that out (Sale Valid: May 3rd - May 5th, 2019). Artists Market of Mackinac Island, our sister shop, has welcomed in so many new artists for this season. Don't forget to pop in there next time you are on the island!
As always, thanks for your support of Little Luxuries of Mackinac Island.

Little Luxuries will be opening on Friday, April 26th for its 11th year!
So many new and exciting products are arriving daily at the shop! Did you know, in order to get all of the items to our front door, boxes have to either arrive by airplane or ferry boat? After the mail arrives on the island, it is placed on a drey, which is basically a horse drawn wagon. The wagon then brings all of the boxes with our beautiful goodies to our front door! All of the mail from the USPS is delivered to the Post Office on Mackinac Island. Little Luxuries staff goes to the post office daily! If a large shipment comes in, a garden cart is used to pick up the boxes and brought back to the shop.
The team has been working for a couple of weeks now to get everything perfectly in place for our opening day. Our new products will be available in the shop on our opening day, April 26th and then will be listed on our website shortly after. If you happen to see a product on our social media that you are interested in purchasing and cannot find it listed online, please call 906.847.9980 between 9 AM - 5 PM.
We can’t wait to see you!
If you’re planning on coming to our Opening Day Celebration, RSVP here!
