Summer 2024 Recap

Posted by Nicole Doud on

Summer 2024 is now in the books! We are ready for school and routines to begin after a fun summer on Mackinac. I feel like we did it all this summer - bike rides, jumpiing in the lake, annual Round Island all boy camp out, pool time, Papa and Grandma's cottage, fishing, the boys' first Gus Macker, lemonade stands, trips to Surrey Hill for donuts, visits to the Fort, sleepovers and lots of basketball and slip n slide fun.
Yet, I feel like there's a lot we didn't get to either. We didn't get to my parent's cabin enough, we didn't boat enough, and we didn't make it to the Ocqueoc Falls. We can only fit in so much though, so we will add it to the bucket list for next summer!
We had some very hot, humid days this summer which I actually love! In Northern Michigan we do not get very many hot days, so I will enjoy our 'hot' days up here!
One week we went swimming in the lake four times. It was amazing!
We head back to Petoskey, MI this weekend and school starts Tuesday. Louie will be in fifth grade, Tommy will be in fourth grade, and Johnny will be starting kindergarten. Louie is playing tackle football for his first time and he is loving it so far! Tommy will play flag football again which is a lot of fun to watch. We will see what we can get Johnny into!
This summer also had some change. The ferry line changes created some 'chaos' at times and as nobody likes change that much, it is taking some time to adjust. I think many residents are excited for things to slow down soon after a bustling summer.
A season of change is always good for us. I am looking forward to football games, warm soups, pumpkin spice anything, cider mill visits and the school routine. I am sure I will be missing the summer fun here shortly! Ha!
I cannot forget about my amazing staff this summer. Bella, Quincee, Ashley, Gabby, Ellie, Allie, Karen, and Jessie are all hard working, kind women. I am so lucky to have them love Little Luxuries and Mackinac as much as I do. Bella and Quincee are now off to new adventures and the rest of us are holding the fort down the remaining 8 weeks of the season. The store is currently filled with so much holiday cheer! You really need to stop in soon if you haven't!
Thank you for your friendship and kindness through the years.
