It was a beautiful start to the 70th Annual Lilac Festival on Mackinac Island this year! We are already four days in and so many exciting events have taken place that we wanted to share with you!
The first event of the festival was the annual Lilac 10K starting at Windermere Point. The racers had the option to either run or walk the distance, but the lilac spirit was definitely in each participant! We had a blast watching them all pass by our store downtown!
Beth Gross, the creator of Farm House Candle Co. came into our store on Saturday, the 9th from 2-4pm to host a trunk show of her items! She was able to meet many of our customers and offer them all 10% off each product. Her loved candles and sprays were selling fast but we were able to restock for the continuation of the season...if you still want to check out her products, feel free to go online or stop in Little Luxuries!
This year's Lilac Festival Queen 2018 was crowned on a sunny Saturday evening in Windermere Point! The winner, Hannah Styburski (shown on the left), will be a junior next year at Mackinac Island Public School and will respectfully begin her duties as Queen this year. She will also be seen riding in the Lilac Festival parade on June 17th!
On Market Street, the Muskegon Boot Scooters hosted a public line dancing event where anyone in town was able to come learn some Southern moves! We had a great time dancing in our cowboy boots and learning some new steps!
Up in Mission Point Resort's Theatre, a lilac poster art gallery was set up to display this year's poster winner, Kevin Barton (his piece is shown on the left)! Each year's lilac festival winner was displayed since 1994...it was interesting to see how each poster has evolved through the years. Many students' work from Mackinac Island Public School were also displayed, showing poems and pictures from kindergarten-high school. It was a beautiful event!
That's all for now! We're looking forward to what else is to come within the next two weeks! Stay tuned for more blog updates!
Nicole,
xoxo
