little luxuries

Getting ready to open for a new season is so exciting, but so overwhelming, too!
I shared a few weeks ago in my Instagram stories about something that’s been weighing on my heart. It’s small, but it factors into the whole supply chain and so many small stores across the country.
When the horrible snow storm hit Texas a few months ago, the factory that produces the glue for all of our cute bags that you leave the shop with had to shut down.
We can get our bag order, but none of the bags will have handles - which would be a sight if you had to walk up and down Main Street holding your bag with no handles. Can you imagine?!
Because I love to support companies in the United States, I was able to find another option for the bags that also have handles, while still being made in the US.
While they won’t be as cute, they will be purposeful and they will still carry the same beautiful goodies that you have been getting at the shop for years.
When you shop small, you are not only supporting my shop, but you are also supporting a bag company in Texas that has had a hard year and been affected by a crazy snow storm.
When you shop small, you are helping to benefit the supply chain in ways that you probably don’t think about often, but make a huge difference in countless lives.
So while we don’t have the prettiest bags this season, I know that we are still doing our part to support the US Supply Chain and help support business’ that need us in our country.
In a way to also help support our environment, if you purchase a Little Luxuries Burlap Tote Bag and bring the bag in when you shop this summer, you will save 10% OFF on your entire purchase! (Bag must be purchased ahead of time.)
As always, thank you for shopping small and supporting Little Luxuries.

Even thought the storefront has been closed, we have been busy prepping in the store to reopen on Friday, April 30th!
Currently, the store is completely torn apart! We painted the shelving and are changing up some of the sections, along with the layout of the shop! When you come in this Spring, you will see so many NEW displays! The baby section is being completely refreshed and updated and we can’t wait for you to see it!
We have received so many orders, especially a HUGE one from Mud Pie, which has so many goodies for Spring + Summer that you are going to LOVE! New orders from vendors keep on coming, so make sure to check out the website often, as items are added to the website almost daily!
After Easter a few employees begin working again and then we go at full speed ahead to get all three stores ready for Opening Day!
Garden Cart
You can see in the Garden Cart, we have been SO busy mailing out online goodies all winter long! Thank you so much for your continued support!

We are so glad we can ship Little Luxuries to you year round!
Keep shopping the website and we’ll see you in the shop on April 30th!!

Artists Market

In 2015, I opened The Artists Market of Mackinac Island, which is truly an incredible place.

When I was buying goodies for Little Luxuries, I kept on seeing more handcrafted and unique goods that I knew needed a special place. I wanted a place where artists from all over the country would be showcased right here on Mackinac Island. Which is why in 2015, I opened The Artists Market on Mackinac Island, which is truly an incredibly special place.

The Artists Market of Mackinac Island is home to over 100 artists each season and every season we bring in more! Some artists have retired from their careers and end up finding a creative hobby. Others have put their creative minds to use, supporting themselves through college with this hobby. One of our youngest entrepreneurs is the artists behind Ava’s Candles. Ava is just in middle school, but her and her mom create these beautiful candles with Petoskey stones shaped around the wick. Our artists are from all over the United States, with a lot coming from right here in Michigan!

One of my favorite parts of The Artists Market of Mackinac Island is introducing YOU to small businesses from the heart of the United States. Each time you shop at The Artists Market, you are truly supporting a small, local shop that helps to support over 100 other small artisans, families and students.

If you’re looking for a truly unique gift that you won’t be able to find elsewhere, go visit The Artists Market of Mackinac. This little shop has a special place in my heart and brings a smile to my face every time I see an order go through because I know we’re helping other family’s stay in business.

Nicole

2020, the year of our new normal.
This year, masks became our new normal. Everyone created a Zoom login for countless online meetings. School constantly fluctuated between online learning and masked learning. We counted how many guests could be in the shop at once. We ate and cooked at home more than ever before.
In February, we took a family trip to NYC and Andrew and I escaped to Mexico in March. Those trips were fun escapes before we realized that we would be spending more time at home than ever before!
This year was an unexpected gift in a lot of ways. We had more family time than we would have ever expected. The boys started distanced learning, we relocated from Petoskey to Mackinac early and spent our days in the fresh, cool air all throughout the spring.
I learned to pivot to more of an online shop than ever before and you showed up LOVING all the fun options! I was excited to offer Surprise Boxes, Curated Boxes, Online Trunk Shows and more! It was so fun to box up your orders for yourself, for friends and for those you loved on the front lines.
I'm ending the year grateful for the boys, grateful for our health and grateful for you.
Xo,
Nicole
