Today’s Monday Maker is Elizabeth Hans, a Mackinac Island local who creates necklaces, earrings and barrettes that are sold at The Artists Market!

Elizabeth Hans

Elizabeth works to create jewelry and barrettes from beautiful and unique natural materials. Her work is created from natural, semi-precious stone beads, pearls, crystals and shells, as well as unique objects, like Massachusetts sea glass, from where she grew up! The beautiful hair barrettes are made from handmade, heavy watercolor paper.

Elizabeth and her husband Dan reside on Mackinac Island May - October and then live in Pennsylvania the rest of the year. Next time you are in the Artists Market of Mackinac Island, stop in to see her beautiful designs!

Have you ever looked at Little Luxuries’ collection of Lake Art? Lake Art, custom made in Harbor Springs, Michigan (only about 45 minutes south of the Mackinac Bridge) is one of a kind and customizable!

Lake Art

Lake Art is the company that started making 3D wooden lake maps, in the early 2000s. All of the orders are made in the United States by a small family owned and operated company and most of the process is done by hand!
Lake Art
The number of layers on the art depends on the shape of the lake, so each one is creative and unique to the actual lake design. Lake Art has a pop of color included, with blue stain added to the natural coloring of the stain, as well.
Next time you are in the shop, look at our collection of Lake Art! If you don’t see the lake you want on their list of offerings, they will work to make a custom map for you!

Little Luxuries
May 1st marked Little Luxuries 11th Birthday! Thank you to everyone who has made this dream of mine a reality over the past 11 years - I would not be here without your support.
On May 1st, we had some of the worst weather that I have ever seen here in May! We had a little snow, wind and just cold, cold weather. Other than the winter weather that we are experiencing, life on the island is going well! Every day in the shop we are busy unwrapping new merchandise that I can’t wait for you to see! We have so many more products arriving this month, so stay tuned for updates!
Island Girl
Our most popular item so far has been our new Island Girl Sweatshirt Dresses. They have been so popular that we already had to re-order. Many of you asked if we had a variety of colors, so we ordered a second color: heather grey!  Have you snagged yours yet? If not, do so today! (Heather grey won't be in for a few more weeks.)
I’m hopeful that spring is just around the corner. Until you’re on the island, stay updated with what’s happening on Facebook and Instagram.  Don't foget about our brother shop, Canvas and Paddle. They are celebrating their birthday on May 5th with a 20% off sale - so go check that out (Sale Valid: May 3rd - May 5th, 2019). Artists Market of Mackinac Island, our sister shop, has welcomed in so many new artists for this season. Don't forget to pop in there next time you are on the island!
As always, thanks for your support of Little Luxuries of Mackinac Island.

Today’s Monday Maker is a local favorite, Kate Dupre! Kate’s work has been featured in Little Luxuries, Doud’s Market and now is available at the Artists Market on Mackinac Island. She has created custom prints available at Doud’s that highlights the best picnic spots on Mackinac Island. One of her trademark designs in creating maps of Mackinac Island and now other cities throughout Michigan. Her designs are also featured on Michigan pins, available at Little Luxuries! Some of her other prints in the Artists Market include Fort Mackinac, Mackinac Island Fudge, I’d Rather Be on Mackinac and more Mackinac related designs!
Kate Dupre
Kate’s newest business venture is the Watercolor Cafe, next to the marina where the old JL Beanery used to be. We are really excited to have her as part of Mackinac Island’s downtown businesses! This year, Kate will be hosting Paint & Pour at Watercolor Cafe, plus other fun art workshops for you to experience. Watercolor Cafe will open Memorial Day Weekend, stay tuned for updates via her Instagram here!

Little Luxuries will be opening on Friday, April 26th for its 11th year!
So many new and exciting products are arriving daily at the shop! Did you know, in order to get all of the items to our front door, boxes have to either arrive by airplane or ferry boat? After the mail arrives on the island, it is placed on a drey, which is basically a horse drawn wagon. The wagon then brings all of the boxes with our beautiful goodies to our front door! All of the mail from the USPS is delivered to the Post Office on Mackinac Island. Little Luxuries staff goes to the post office daily! If a large shipment comes in, a garden cart is used to pick up the boxes and brought back to the shop.
The team has been working for a couple of weeks now to get everything perfectly in place for our opening day. Our new products will be available in the shop on our opening day, April 26th and then will be listed on our website shortly after. If you happen to see a product on our social media that you are interested in purchasing and cannot find it listed online, please call 906.847.9980 between 9 AM - 5 PM.
We can’t wait to see you!
If you’re planning on coming to our Opening Day Celebration, RSVP here!
