Today’s Monday Maker is Elizabeth Hans, a Mackinac Island local who creates necklaces, earrings and barrettes that are sold at The Artists Market!

Elizabeth Hans

Elizabeth works to create jewelry and barrettes from beautiful and unique natural materials. Her work is created from natural, semi-precious stone beads, pearls, crystals and shells, as well as unique objects, like Massachusetts sea glass, from where she grew up! The beautiful hair barrettes are made from handmade, heavy watercolor paper.

Today’s Monday Maker is featuring a new artist, Momo Glassworks! Two artists who met in Andalusia, traveled Spain together, read a book called “Momo” and here they are, years later, creating art together! Currently, they create and reside in Massachusetts.

Momo Glassworks

Today they are creating art on Glass Canvas and Bright Mosaics. The process is quite scientific and full of steps and took quite a while to perfect! The temperature of the glass cannot get too hot or too cold, it has to be just right, to not break. In order to have the collage of color in the art, they must put a piece of glass on either side of the color. The layers of glass help add depth to the piece, making it beautiful and unique!

Little Luxuries

It’s Mother’s Day Weekend on Mackinac Island! It’s a lot chillier than I’d like it to be, but there are still plenty of ways to have fun and treat Mom to a special day, if you happen to be visiting for the weekend. Last year, my boys took me on a picnic and then to the Butterfly House for.a day of family fun!
A favorite Mother’s Day tradition for many is brunch at the Grand Hotel. Take your Mom to the Grand Buffet Luncheon in the Main Dining Room. It’s a great way to celebrate Mom in a special way to let her know that you love her!
Many of the shops on Main Street will be open, if you still haven’t found the perfect gift for Mom and need to do some last minute shopping.  Little Luxuries will be open on Sunday starting at 10 AM and we hope to see you then!
